so i start
i´m Anna from Kharkov. Study Computer Science in Germany (don´t really like it).
´ve been learning English since i was 14...
since i ve been speaking German, have some problems with English. I mix these two languages so now I use each opportunity to speak (or just to write) English.
-------------------------------------
now start thinking it was the most stupid topic I could open, so if you have any other ideas....

Hi,
I'm Sergei from Berlin.
Presenting a historical perspective on the subject "from" is a bit confusing. I remember when I was in the plane to Chile I had to fill a form with only four questions:
Citizenship: Russian
Passport issued in: Sweden
Family lives in: Canada
Flying from: Germany
Sometime I present myself as Canadian (my nationality spells like that in one of my passports), but immidiately get problems with English and have to add that I'm more Russian...
My occupation is also somhow confusing. In my Diploma I have "mechaniker". There is no such education in the West (not to say, there is no such word in English). So, instead of presenting myself as specialist in mechanics of continous media, I call myself "applied mathematician", which is not exact. But I work in geology for already 15+ years...

Hi Anna and all together.
I'm a fellow from Bavaria and I study the one of the natural sciences. (By the way, I'm sure, you would like ХГУ-мехмат much more than CS on any german university).
Your bilingual problem is common for all the non-german speaking people in Germany I know who did learn english before.
Me, I don't have this problem - I never did learn English, but I'm on pains to do it, when I've got some time for it.
It's the reason I dare writing here :)
How long do you live in Deutschland? I've been in Kharkov few years ago, I've a lot of marvellous recollections connected with... Huh... :)
I wish you succesfull studies (and a great vacation)!

Computer science and math are very different subjects. If Kharkov State mixes these two, I would question the quality of education...
Even if education is ok in Kharkov, finding a job in Germany will be more difficult with degree from Ukraine.
I also have some bilangual problems. But that is not related to English. Every time I look for German word, I try to use Swedish, and even though many people say that these two languages are similar, I was never understood...

Thank you. I'm glad for myself if it was my only foul in this text. Not badly...

As far as I know, till few years ago (even maybe to now), in the Ex-USSR there no were faculties of computer science. If you wanted to study CS, you had to join faculty of mathematics and to land in the department of applied mathematics later. Factually, the studying matter was more concerned with computing than with mathematics.

Oh yes, i know it... I have a friend from Denmark who played this game with me (they say, Danish was similar to German). But you need some linguistical (acoustical, musical?) imagination and a bit of experience with danisch words to discover the similarity between certain words and finally to understand them. After, you are amazed by have been also uninspired.
I would say, keep training your collegues :)

That has many more mistakes, but I don't know how to fix them. At least, use "bad" in that statement.
CS and applied math are very different subjects. I'm applied mthematician, but my knowledge of computer system is limeted by "ctrl-alt-del"... I think it is like biology and medicine, they look similar to outsiders...

I feel bad about this mistake, but it's not bad to learn the right way :)
>>I'm applied mthematician, but my knowledge of computer system is limeted by "ctrl-alt-del"...
No, I didn't want (right?) to insinuate that you know more about computer system, I didn't say "all ex-students of appl. maths are computer specialists". I rather mean, "the people who became programers in Kharkov, were students of appl. maths". At least the people I know.
------------
Next lesson: Simple past and present perfect (and the contrast of).

Programming is not necesserely a part of CS. I do a lot of that... And we were talking about university education, not self-education.
