Please help me to "reconstruct" my knowledge. I haven't practised my English for 2 years. If I don't save my English now, I won't be able to pass my exam in this language. The thing is I want to study at the university. But first I should take an examination in English. If I make mistakes writing this letter, point to these mistakes, please.

Thanks! I'm terribly sorry for my mistakes und unpresice usage of words. Unfortunately I have not enough free time to "revive" my skills. I have a little baby, namely it is a sweet baby-girl named Veronica. She takes all my time and attention. I hope that I will speak English fluently in several months if I do my best. Just believe me, my passive vocabulary is large but it is really "very passive".
I appreciate your help. I would be glad to read your critics concerning all my messages written in English.

Well, as Xo-Xo mentioned, it was a very "free" correction on her part. I'd say most of the changes she made are not really necessary.
- "knowledge" and "skills" are not identical, if you wanted to say "knowledge" you could certainly do that
- haven't practised my English since 2 years is plainly wrong, "for 2 years" is correct
- If I don't save my English┘ - I don't see any problem with this sentence
- take an examination is not a mistake
- if I make mistakes writing this letter √ correct

To be honest I was also surprised that I had "made" so many mistakes. The problem is I have no books or some other sources to find the right variant of a phrase or a sentence. Your comment is much more helpful as the previous one because you give at least a short explanation. I am terribly proud of reading that my English is not bad at all. But I am affraid that my today's English is too simple. My task is to use not only words which occur in any textbook but also terms and complicated grammatical constructions.
I am waiting for your further remarks with interest.

Now I will try to chat with in englsih. But, I have to say at the begining of my writing, that my english is not the best one . However, on this way I could try (with your help of course) to improove it.
I think the best way to learn it, is to read the books, news papers and some short stories (or also long stories) that are for kids. Chating and comunicate through (?) the forum is the another way. I'm requesting to correct me!
My suggestion is to write here as much as possible, about a special topic. That would help you elvira167 to refresh your skills, it would also help me... and everybody who wants to take part on this "mission".
My problem is that I don't know when to use "the". I'm doing it very offte wrong . I had never english at school, therefore my grammar is horrible.
Today was a hard and long day, I need to submit my theasis in a few days, in english...

In the early days of this forum we started correcting mistakes of each other but somehow it was unpeasant for people who were corrected (even if they asked for it) and boring to all others...

That's right!!!!! It is borring just to correct someones writing To chat about a special topic is quite interesting, to tell something about yourself and similar things...

You have mentioned "a special topic"? Could you suggest a topic? I would like to read or write some humorous stories from our own life. Have you any ideas?

I have got a chance - so I did it. Firstly I did a semester abroad, so I knew the profesors from the current university. I think otherwise I wouldn't be here. My English is not perfect, it would take some years to be as well as the native speackers. However, I started learning by doing. My thesis supervisor helps me (n;o c;o;m;m;e;n;t), he also correct my writing ...

he must be a nice person, your supervisor... I'm sure it's a real advantage to have your thesis written in english! So keep it up!

I am terribly sorry! I couldn´t answer your message earlier. As far as I understood you would like to read something about my sweet baby. But I can write in English only if this very baby is sleeping.
Yesterday my daughter Veronika celebrated her "mini-birthday" - 7 months . She can creep already und produces different syllables very precisely. Once she even said "Papa"! Since that moment I am waiting for her first "Mama" impatiently. I am terribly proud of my child. This creature is my greatest achivement!!!
In the nearest future, namely in a week, our family is going to visit our relatives in Russia. They all will see Veronika at the first time! That´s why this trip is so significant for me, my husband and our little daughter. I´m sure we shall enjoy every day spent with the relatives and our old friends.
As soon as I am in Germany again, I shall tell you some funny stories from my life.
Unfortunately, today I have not enough inspiration to write something humorous. It´s raining throughout the day and I should resist my great wish to sleeeeeeeeeeep till tomorrow...
